2nd Joburg media release, Imani Hse Of Fashion at AFW 09
Dress-a--croch' collection for Africa Fashion Week 2009.

Imani House of Fashion, a clothing line designed to say less but exude mere edge through its simple elegance was incorporated in early 2007 by Liz Ogumbo, Model, and Imani into Model Management founder and director, artist and fashion icon.

‘Imani House of Fashion' is based in Nairobi, Kenya. All the work and tailoring takes place within the same location as we come up with fresh designs distributed to retail sales outlets and customers globally through the internet to reach ‘Imani House of Fashion' lovers across the globe.

Kenyan designer, Liz Ogumbo of Imani House of Fashion, launched it's ‘Dress-a-croch' collection at the first ever Arise Africa Fashion Week in Johannesburg on Friday 19th June, 2009 at 6:00pm which was sold out completely. A lot of last minute tickets were given away to callers on radio stations such as Kaya, metro radio, Radio 2000 amongst other media groups during Liz's interviews and surely, audience turned out in masses.

The show began on time and the models brought out their playful sassy personalities that were exuded through the bubbly colourful collection, with Liz Ogumbo strutting down the runway in her own collection too. The overall audience response was very positive.

"This Dress-a-croch collection was inspired by a brief visit to my mother's house, I found myself staring and falling in love with her well-spread old- skul crochet table clothe and my 'Dress-a-croch' collection came to life. The dresses are made out of cotton-poly fabric and with hints and finishing's of old-skul crochet techniques. The dots and bright colours bring out a vibrance and "all-time classic" edge that dressaholics must look out for this season", says Liz.

The collection is accents felinity with flair featuring dresses for all occasions, sizes and attitudes.

"My overall inspiration for the line is in-sync with the truth of the current situation in Africa, from which the true creativity, edge and style are derived from; I had the go ahead to bring back something fresh into style.

"The bright coloured cotton-poly fabric exudes the vibrance, richness and variety within the continent, whereas the old skul-crochet techniques have been intertwined to create and bring back a melange of our extremely creative handwork crochet techniques done by the local women", states Liz.

This all-time-classic collection features:

  • Fabric and crochet tiered dresses
  • Square-neck doll dress
  • Ruffled dresses
  • Maxis and minis with sparkling empire-line
  • Cocktail dresses
  • 6"waist hugging belts & crochet accessories

Arise Africa Fashion week has been an inspiration and motivation for me to get to the next level as a fashion designer based in Africa, trying to reach as many markets within and without the continent and I have already got two potential buyers from the continent.

Buyers can place orders through the website, www.imanimodels.com, under ‘Imani House of Fashion.

Imani House of Fashion also features in the current issue of ARISE magazine.
